Research

Our research centers around human endogenous retroviruses and autoimmune disease, in particular multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Our genetic epidemiology studies indicate that such viruses are important for both diseases. Studies of viral expression suggests the same. Our studies specifically implicate the virus HERV-Fc1 in multiple sclerosis.  Our research also implicate retroviral restriction genes as being of importance for multiple sclerosis.
