The main research areas cover:  Ultrastructural analysis of Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) with focus on capsular and cell wall polysaccharides; isolation and structural analysis of pneumococcal and streptococcal polysaccharide antigens; development of serological methods for typing of pneumococci and other streptococci;  population genetic analysis of Streptococcus agalactiae (human and bovine group B streptococcus) and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
