Profile

I am a lecturer at the Department of Dentistry and Oral Health, with a particular interest in making complex health science understandable and applicable. I am a trained midwife and hold an MSc in Midwifery Science and a PhD in Health Sciences.

Research

I hold a PhD in Health Sciences and have experience in clinical and patient-centred research, including within physiology and pharmacology. My research background includes clinical studies, quantitative analyses and systematic reviews. I draw on this background in my teaching when students learn to critically appraise health science knowledge and apply it in their clinical practice.

Teaching activities

In my teaching, I emphasise high academic standards, clear communication and a strong link between theory and professional practice. A safe and inclusive learning environment is important to me, so that students actively ask questions and engage in the lessons. When developing courses and learning activities, I focus on progression, relevance and ensuring that students can apply health science knowledge in their future profession.

Job responsibilities

My main area of responsibility is teaching on the professional bachelor’s programmes in dental hygiene and clinical dental technology, where I teach anatomy, physiology, microbiology, general medicine and pharmacology. I am also responsible for courses, plan and develop teaching, supervise students, prepare exam assignments and assess exams.
