Profil

I am an External Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University, with a background in clinical microbiology, bacterial diagnostics and genomic epidemiology. My research focuses particularly on Streptococcus pneumoniae and Streptococcus agalactiae, including surveillance, molecular epidemiology, vaccine-related research and the development and evaluation of laboratory methods.

Forskning

My research focuses on clinical microbiology and genomic epidemiology of bacterial pathogens, especially Streptococcus pneumoniae and Streptococcus agalactiae. I use phenotypic and molecular methods, whole-genome sequencing and epidemiological data to study bacterial diversity, surveillance, vaccine impact, antimicrobial resistance and the development and evaluation of diagnostic and typing methods.

Uddannelse

I teach and supervise students in microbiology, infectious diseases and molecular methods. My teaching covers bacterial pathogenesis, diagnostics, antimicrobial resistance, whole-genome sequencing and genomic epidemiology, with emphasis on linking basic microbiology to clinical practice, laboratory diagnostics, surveillance and research.

Samarbejder

I collaborate with universities, hospitals, clinical microbiology laboratories, reference laboratories, and private companies in Denmark and internationally. My collaborations focus on pneumococcal and Group B Streptococcus surveillance, molecular epidemiology, vaccine-related studies, laboratory methods, quality assurance and genomic characterization of bacterial pathogens.

Rådgivning

Based on my experience in clinical microbiology, reference laboratory work and genomic epidemiology, I provide specialist advice on bacterial identification and typing, surveillance, whole-genome sequencing, interpretation of microbiological data and vaccine-related questions. I also contribute to scientific projects, method development and international laboratory collaborations.

Arbejdsområder

At Aarhus University, I contribute to teaching, supervision and research in microbiology and infectious diseases. My work draws on extensive experience from clinical microbiology and national reference laboratory activities, including bacterial identification and typing, antimicrobial resistance, whole-genome sequencing, surveillance and interpretation of microbiological and epidemiological data.
