Scientific Day at Hjemdal Conference Center – 28 April 2026

Our lab recently held a scientific day focused on sharing knowledge, developing ideas, and strengthening collaboration. The program included a series of presentations highlighting ongoing research, followed by workshops on manuscript development and strategies for generating new project ideas.

In addition to the academic sessions, the day included informal and social activities that provided an opportunity for team members to connect across projects and research areas. These interactions supported open discussion and encouraged new perspectives.

The event contributed to ongoing work in the lab by refining research directions, identifying potential collaborations, and supporting the development of future manuscripts and projects.

Our team attended the “Translational Cancer Research – Integration of Basic and Clinical Perspectives” conference at the Danish Architecture Center, Copenhagen.

The conference focused on strengthening collaboration between basic and clinical cancer research, featuring talks by leading international experts and fostering valuable scientific discussions.

We’ve had a busy (and exciting!) start to the season 🎉

We’re thrilled to welcome four new Bachelor’s students to the team. They’ve already brought fresh energy, sharp questions, and a lot of enthusiasm to the lab — we’re very happy to have them on board!

At the same time, Thea is back — this time as a PhD student! We’re so excited to have her continuing with us in a new role (same Thea, upgraded title 😉).

And last but definitely not least, Teresa is back from maternity leave. We’re incredibly happy to have her back — both for her expertise and her great company.

It’s wonderful to see the team growing and evolving!

New Research Grant Award!

Congratulations to Lasse Kristensen on receiving a research grant of DKK 3,811,449 from the Novo Nordisk Foundation for the project “Investigating Circular RNA Expression and Molecular Function in the Tumor Microenvironment of Adenocarcinomas.”

Lasse and Stine both received grants from Børnecancerfonden. These grants will advance our understanding of the tumor microenvironment of pediatric brain tumors and allow Stine to further develop skills with functional analysis of lncRNAs using organoid model systems.

We had a great time at the Spatial Transcriptomics in Practice workshop at SDU. Both Lasse and Juan gave presentations on our experience with CosMx technology, and the day was filled with valuable insights, open discussions, and shared experiences across platforms.

Lasse and Thea participated in the 5th Danish Single-Cell Symposium (CellX), held at Univercity of Copenhagen, where Thea had the opportunity to present her research on the circular RNA ciRS-7. Her study investigated the spatial expression and epigenetic regulation of ciRS-7 across various adenocarcinomas, revealing its distinct presence in the tumor microenvironment and its regulation via DNA methylation and histone acetylation.

In April, we welcomed Lucrezia Calamo from the University of Bari to our team!

She will be with us for six months, working on research that explores how both circular and linear forms of PVT1 contribute to cancer development through translation and microRNA interactions.
