He holds a PhD in Immunology and Infectious Diseases and has held positions at prestigious institutions like McGill University in Canada and the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute in the USA.

Research

David Olagnier focuses on harnessing the immune system to develop innovative cancer therapies, with a particular emphasis on oncolytic virotherapy. By exploring virus-host interactions and immune modulation, his work aims to enhance viral-based cancer treatments. Additionally, he investigates antiviral defense mechanisms and immune evasion strategies to improve therapeutic efficacy and broaden applications in immuno-oncology.

Teaching activities

David Olagnier teaches courses in Molecular Medicine and Medicine, covering topics such as Parasitology, Virology, Mycology, Bacteriology, and Innate Immunology. His teaching includes lectures, exam preparation, and student supervision at the bachelor, master, and PhD levels. David is committed to fostering critical thinking and scientific curiosity, integrating research-based learning to prepare students for careers in biomedical sciences.

Collaborations

Local and international collaborations are at the heart of the Olagnier lab. At Aarhus University, we partner with the Chemistry Department (Thomas B. Poulsen) and clinicians at Aarhus University Hospital, including neurosurgeon Anders Korshøj and pediatric oncologist Torben Mikkelsen. We also collaborate with chemist Anders Bach at the University of Copenhagen. Internationally, we work with Tommy Alain (Ottawa), Nadine van Montfoort (Leiden), and Laureano de la Vega (Dundee), among many others.
