Innate immunology of viral infections
Welcome to the Paludan lab!
We are interested in understanding how the innate immune system detects and fight viral infections – at the molecular, cellular, and whole-organism level. With a particular focus on the brain and the nervous system, we are interested in understanding the detailed mechanisms that govern the fine blances between beneficial resolving immune responses and disease-causing pathological immune responses.
Our efforts will contribute to better understanding of viral and inflammatory diseases and have implications for future development of improved vaccines, antiviral therapeutics, and diagnostic tools.

New lab member: Sofie Østergård Bæk
“My name is Sofie, and I hold a Master’s degree in Molecular Biomedicine from the University of Copenhagen. I spent the past year as a research assistant in the Paludan lab and have now started my PhD here. My project focuses on understanding immune mechanisms in response to viral infections in neurons. I am excited to continue my work in the lab, learn from and collaborate with other members of the group, and expand my expertise in immunology and virology.”
