Large grant goes to researcher from Aarhus University
Tove Christensen has just received financial support for her research project to study the causes of multiple sclerosis. The DKK 262,000 grant was awarded by the Riisfort Foundation.
The Aarhus-based researcher Tove Christensen has studied multiple sclerosis for many years. The causes of the condition remain unknown, but Tove Christensen hopes that her research project “Pathogenic effect of activated CNS-related human endogeneous retrovirus” will bring us closer to an answer.
"We are studying whether activated human endogenous retrovirus (HERV) or our immune defence’s reactions to HERV is a cause of the condition,” Tove Christensen explains.
The project will contribute to building knowledge on the disease course of multiple sclerosis and may inspire the development of new treatment options for the condition.
“The project is mainly financed by external funding and the grant is essential to the realisation of important laboratory tests. The grant brings considerable support and encouragement to my ongoing scientific work,” says Tove Christensen.
Tove Christensen is an associate professor at Aarhus University.
