The Skou Building's 3,000 m2 laboratory animal facility has room for approx. 30,000 mice and rats which are used for research into diseases. You enter the facility through an air-shower, where allergens are blown off your clothing.
The air in the sealed animal facility is filtered to prevent the spread of diseases between the individual units. The operation is partially automated with a large robot washing unit capable of changing and cleaning 9,500 cages in 30 hours.
The LED lighting in the units can simulate the different shades of daylight, so that the mice thrive, and each animal cage is equipped with its own drinking water supply and individual ventilation. Despite the laboratory animal facility being located underground, light shafts provide daylight for the staff in the staffroom and laboratories.
