New honorary professor in clinical pharmacology
Jørgen Rungby has been appointed honorary professor at Aarhus University. Jørgen Rungby conducts research into how certain drugs work, in particular those used for the treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes and Alzheimer's.
The Department of Biomedicine at Aarhus University has appointed Jørgen Rungby as honorary professor in clinical pharmacology. Here he will conduct research into developing new methods to improve the effect of drugs and avoid side effects.
"The methods include both studies of which cell genes are affected by the drugs, physiological studies of the influence of the drugs on the functioning of cells and organs, and studies of the health-related consequences of medical treatment," says Jørgen Rungby.
He compares drugs that have the same effect on the treatment of diabetes, but where some of the drugs appear to be more risky than others in relation to the risk of developing side effects.
"On a general level we would like to help ensure that the right patient receives the right treatment at the right time," says Jørgen Rungby.
Jørgen Rungby graduated from Aarhus University in 1984 and obtained his higher doctoral degree from the same university in 1990. His daily work now takes place at the Centre for Diabetes Research at Gentofte University Hospital.
