Change in status on opportunistic microorganism Klebsiella oxytoca
Klebsiella oxytoca positive mice and rats from approved/trusted vendors can be allowed.
Most vendors, including Janvier, Taconic, Jax and Charles River, have increased limitations in providing mice and rats with animal health status negative for the opportunistic microorganism Klebsiella oxytoca (and K. pneumoniae).
This causes increased cost, time and limitations in providing the required animals for researchers.
In line with other universities in Denmark and after evaluation within the Animal Facility Advisory Board and veterinary group, the Laboratory Animal Core Facility management has decided to allow ordering Klebsiella oxytoca positive mice and rats from approved/trusted vendors.
This means that SPF animals positive for K. oxytoca can be purchased when SOPF animals are not an option. The decision of ordering SPF animals is made in close collaboration with the Animal Facility staff.
K. oxytoca and K. pneumoniae will NOT be accepted in the breeding barrier or in areas with immunocompromised animals.
Animal health reports will be updated accordingly and are available on our homepage.
