The platform specializes in cardiovascular and metabolic phenotyping in the broadest sense, both for researchers at the department and external clients. Our aim is to make the department’s combined knowledge, expertise and resources more accessible, and for it to be easy to find and ask for help if needed.

We will offer guidance, technical assistance and equipment for several different techniques, focusing on some main areas, which can be seen below. Other techniques can be found in the menu on the left.

Telemetry

Telemetry is in situ collection of data from a transmitter, and as such, can mean collection of any data, depending on the implant.

Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging

LSCI is used for real-time imaging of microcirculatory blood flow in the brain, skin, kidneys, intestines, eyes and other tissues, in alert or anaesthetized patients.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is one of the most readily accessible clinical tools, and it is also applicable to a great variety of preclinical research.

Metabolism

There are several options for metabolic studies at the Department of Biomedicine, and the equipment can often be combined and tailored to suit your exact needs.

Blood pressure measurements

Having the resources to measure accurate and reliable blood pressures in research subjects can be essential in understand the physiology and pathology of cardiovascular disease.

Cardiac morphology and function

Understanding and describing cardiac function and morphology is essential in cardiovascular research. We have several modes of characterizing cardiac properties, whether invasive or non-invasive, in vivo or ex vivo.

Vascular phenotyping

Vascular health and heart disease are closely related as, regardless of primacy, the outcome of disease in either will also affect the other.

Continuous delivery of drugs

Osmotic pumps and vascular access buttons offer a great opportunity for continuous administration of compounds, without needing repeated injection or handling of animals.
