Once the animals arrive, there is a mandatory seven-day acclimatization period and an approved Study Plan must be in place before the animals can be used in experiments.
Requisition for ordering animals from commercial vendors can be downloaded to the right. When the requisition is completed, it must be sent to animalorders@biomed.au.dk together with the approved Study Plan.
When ordering animals for breeding in the barrier, it is only possible to order animals with SOPF status (specific opportunist and pathogen free). Also in the standard barrier (open part of the facility), the animals must have SOPF status.
If you wish to import animals from a business partner or collaborating university, please see the Import and export page.
If you have questions about ordering animals, please contact animalorders@biomed.au.dk.
To reduce production of surplus animals, vendors usually don't have SOPF animals in stock that are more the 12 weeks old.
Please remember to order in due time if you need animals more than 12 weeks old.
Animal orders must be placed no later than Sunday one and a half week before arrival.
For example, if you wish to start your experiments in week 10, the animals must arrive in week 9 in order for them to acclimatize properly before use. This means that the order must be placed no later than Sunday in week 7.

Sharing animals between researchers is important to convey research and collaboration between groups.
However, it is a shared group responsibility to secure that animals for experimental purposes are only shared between researchers that have valid animal experimental licenses and approved project plans. Thus, in order to share and hand over animals for experimental purposes between groups, it is required that an approved project plan can be presented to the group sharing and handing over the animals.
It is the responsibility of the group using animals for experimental procedures to report the use of animals to the Animal Experiments Inspectorate.
