The primary focus of the lab was the mapping, identification and characterization of human-disease genes. In the last two years the lab has been dealing with COVID-19 within the International COVID Human Genetic Effort Consortium helping to study the genomic characteristics of the host. In this context, we identified novel and synthetic monoclonal antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 and discovered novel mechanism of virus egress. We also developed 3D lung organoid structures (hLORGs) derived from human-induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and infected by different SARS-CoV-2 S variants. Within UNDINE, we will be involved in work package 4, investigating the human genetics and immunity of critical COVID-19 pneumonia.
